Malini Vijaykumar explores the causes of wrongful convictions, focusing on cultural and systemic reasons behind why Indigenous people are more likely fall victim to a miscarriage of justice. Through interviews with members of the justice sector whose work involves Indigenous people and communities, Vijaykumar puts forward real-world experiences, aligning the impacts of these miscarriages of justice with the statistics and research that has been conducted in Canada and beyond. Finally, Vijaykumar sets forward a number of recommendations for the justice system to improve their understanding of Indigenous people in order to better inform their work and serve their needs.
