Innocence Canada is pleased to announce that Maria R. Shepherd has been elected to the Board of Directors for a three year term.

Maria R. Shepherd is Innocence Canada’s 21st client to be exonerated. Maria was wrongly convicted of manslaughter after the death of her young stepdaughter in 1992. She was acquitted of those charges on February 29, 2016. Read more about Maria’s wrongful conviction here

Maria has been a licensed Paralegal with the Law Society of Upper Canada since 2016 and is the Senior Paralegal at Shepherd Advocacy and Litigation. Maria has 25 years of collective personal and work experience in the areas of Criminal Law, Family Law, Civil Litigation and Landlord Tenant matters. Maria is a staunch advocate and keynote speaker against wrongful convictions and participates in conferences internationally.
