Innocence Canada is hiring for the positions of Director of Education and Staff Lawyer.

Director of Education

Established in 2014, Innocence Canada’s education program is central to the success of the organization. Presently, the education program is fully funded by a three-year contribution agreement (2020-2023) from the Department of Justice.

The Director’s role is multifaceted and complex, as responsibilities can vary greatly depending on the needs of the partners and programs. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Education is accountable for a wide variety of tasks ranging from leading recruitment initiatives, supervising student work, project and program management, content development, and establishing and sustaining partnerships.

Staff Lawyer

The staff lawyer will assist in reviewing claims of wrongful conviction and, where applicable, in preparing for the litigation of those claims. This will include managing case files, legal research, and working collaboratively with Innocence Canada staff and pro-bono lawyers in the development of strategies for pursuing claims of wrongful conviction.

The staff lawyer will also be involved with Innocence Canada’s ongoing contribution to policy and law reform discussions relevant to the field of wrongful convictions and criminal justice in general. There is a possibility of involvement in matters before the courts.
